Groveland Fire Department Extinguishes Early Morning Garage Fire

GROVELAND — Chief Robert Valentine reports that the Groveland Fire Department responded to a fire at a garage on Garrison Street early Thursday morning.

On Thursday, Feb. 10, at approximately 3:32 a.m., Groveland Fire responded to 1 Garrison St. for a report of a fire at an undetached one-car garage.

Upon arrival, crews observed flames showing throughout the structure.

Crews began an aggressive attack and worked to extinguish the blaze. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes of crews’ arrival.

Due to the Department’s response, the fire did not spread to an adjacent house though radiant heat caused the house’s vinyl siding to melt.

No one was inside the garage at the time of the fire and no firefighters were injured. The garage is considered a total loss due to heavy fire and smoke damage.

The Groveland Police Department assisted on scene. Station coverage was provided by the West Newbury and Georgetown Fire Departments.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Groveland Fire Department.

“Our firefighters did an excellent job quickly extinguishing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to the house on the property,” Chief Valentine said. “I would like to thank Groveland Police for assisting at the scene, as well as the West Newbury and Georgetown Fire Department for providing station coverage.”
