GROVELAND — Fire Chief Robert Lay and Police Chief Jeffrey Gillen report that the Groveland Fire and Police Departments responded to a two-car crash this evening on Route 97.

At approximately 5:20 p.m., dispatch received a report of a motor vehicle crash on Route 97 at Center Street.

Upon arrival, fire and police crews learned that a 75-year-old man from New Hampshire driving a Mercedes was traveling from Georgetown to Groveland on Route 97. The second vehicle, a 2010 Infiniti, driven by a 21-year-old man from Lawrence, was on Center Street heading toward Salem Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign and hit the Mercedes.

Ambulances from Trinity and the Georgetown Fire Department also arrived on scene.

The driver of the Infiniti and his male passenger were both transported to the hospital with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening. The driver of the Mercedes declined medical treatment.

“This was a great collaborative effort between the fire and police departments,” Chief Lay said. “We arrived quickly on scene and worked together to assist the patients in need. We’re thankful that no one was seriously injured.”

The intersection of Route 97 and Center Street is currently under construction, which has partially obstructed the stop sign. A new traffic pattern is in the process of being installed to better manage the flow of traffic.

“Route 97 is a busy road, especially during rush hour, and the current road construction only adds to confusion for out of town drivers,” Chief Gillen said. “We remind all drivers to be cautious in that area and to remain alert at all times.”
