Groveland Police and Fire Departments Rescue Driver After Car Crashes Into Pond

GROVELAND — Police Chief Jeffrey Gillen and Fire Chief Robert Lay report that the Groveland Police and Fire Departments responded after a vehicle crashed into the water in Johnsons Pond this afternoon.

At approximately 1:28 p.m. Groveland Police and Fire were dispatched to the area of 201 Washington St. for a report that a vehicle had come to rest in Johnsons Pond. Upon arrival, Detective Steven Petrone entered the water and removed the female driver from the car and subsequently assisted Officer Daniel Richmond as he pulled her across the ice to shore.

Groveland Firefighters and EMTs evaluated the woman on scene and entered the water in order to bring the vehicle ashore.

The driver was subsequently transported to an area hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening. No first responders were injured during the rescue operation.

Groveland Police are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
