Groveland Fire Rescue and Police Departments to Host Public Safety Open House

GROVELAND — Fire Chief Robert Lay and Police Chief Jeffrey Gillen are pleased to invite Groveland residents to the upcoming Public Safety Open House.

WHEN:

Saturday, Oct. 28, from 1-4 p.m.

WHERE:

Public Safety Building, 181 Main St., Groveland

WHO:

  • Groveland Fire Rescue Department
  • Groveland Police Department

WHAT:

Groveland’s first responders will welcome residents to the town’s inaugural Public Safety Open House, where they will have a variety of opportunities to learn safety skills and get to know the firefighters and police officers that serve their community.

The event will feature live demonstrations on the importance of staying low to the ground in a fire — including an interactive trailer, on loan from North Andover, that simulates real smoke conditions. Firefighters will also highlight the importance of planning for two ways to escape from a home during a fire, as well as assisting with creating a family escape plan.

Residents can learn how to use a fire extinguisher and there will be a staffed child safety seat inspection station. Both departments will also open their vehicles to anyone curious to see the inside of a fire truck, ambulance or police cruiser, and Groveland Police will offer an inside look at their new dispatch center.

“We’re excited to welcome the whole community and give them hands-on training on important fire safety techniques,” Chief Lay said. “Our firefighters will be leading activities throughout the afternoon that will be fun and informative for people of all ages.”

The event will also feature a raffle, hot dogs, hamburgers and refreshments from the Boy Scouts of America.

“I hope everyone makes plans to come and meet us and learn about what our officers do to serve the community,” Chief Gillen said. “We look forward to every opportunity to get to know residents and answer their questions about public safety.”

Residents are also encouraged to bring canned goods, batteries and clothing, which will be donated to hurricane victims in Puerto Rico.
